The Wallaby sweater is a knitted hooded sweatshirt (the hood is optional), complete with front pouch pocket.  Instructions are sized for children on up to large adults.  For the purposes of learning the techniques used in this pattern and with the goal of completing it during the course of the class, Roxanne recommends knitting the smallest child's size. You may choose to knit a larger size, but keep in mind you will have more knitting to do between classes in order to keep up.
There are lots of great techniques in this sweater, but one thing it doesn't have is seams! The class is four sessions, with a skip week between sessions two and three. Week 1: The pouch. Invisibly pick up sts for the pouch and invisibly join them to the rest of the sweater body once the pouch is complete. Week 2: The sleeves. Your choice of a bloused sleeve with 1 row of many increases or a tapered sleeve with gradual, mirrored increases. Week 3: Joining the sleeves to the body, casting on extra stitches for the underarm, and dividing the body for the front placket without ruining the stitch pattern continuity. (The method Rox will show you is not in the pattern.)  Week 4: Grafting the hood and underarms.  Students may get extra help with no charge between sessions at Rox's Thursday night Clinics.

Materials: Worsted weight yarn in the quantity needed for the size to be knit. Sample made with hood took just over 2 balls (200 g) of Encore Colorspun for the smallest size; size 6 and 8 needles - please refer to pattern for needle lengths and type (circs and dpns).  [Instructor used 32" circulars with very flexible cables (such as Addi Turbo or Addi Lace Turbo) and the Magic Loop technique, which eliminated the need for dpns.]  tapestry needle; The Wonderful Wallaby pattern.

HomeworkPlease cast on and knit the ribbing for the bottom of the sweater BEFORE the first class session. If you need help getting started knitting in the round, you may come to Rox's Thursday night Clinic on April 5 for help at no charge.
