What is a trunk show?
During a trunk show, a particular designer or manufacturer brings their entire line of merchandise into our shop so that our customers can see and buy products we don't always have in stock. The show may last anywhere from a day to a month. And we often offer a discount on that merchandise, both in-stock and specially ordered during the trunk show.
A trunk show is a fabulous opportunity to see new designs, as well as an entire collection in one place. You can see, feel, or even try on the finished sweaters. Often, we see the finished needlepoint pieces as well.
Why a trunk show?
Historically, salesmen would travel around the countryside with samples of their products, usually carried in a trunk or large suitcase. Those of us who grew up in the rural Midwest remember Fuller Brush, Minnesota Woolens, and Watkins salesmen knocking on the door with their huge cases, stuffed full of things to look at and touch.
Today, the products are shipped, and rarely in a trunk. But the trunk shows allow us to briefly expand our inventory and give our customers new opportunities and greater choices.
