Learn to knit and make something useful at the same time! Fingerless mitts are a great way to keep your hands warm when you still need to use your fingers, whether you're reading, working on the computer, or doing household chores. As with any beginning class, you will learn to cast on stitches (get your starting loops on the needles) and you'll learn the two basic stitches on which all knitting is based: the knit stitch and the purl stitch. You will also learn to bind off (finish off the knitting so that it is no longer on the needles). This class will teach all that, plus how to read a knitting pattern (provided). These mitts are worked flat (back and forth) on two needles, making this an ideal first project for new knitters. It's a small, quick project that incorporates the basic techniques listed above. It doesn't take a lot of time or a lot of yarn, and the end result is useful! Students need not have any previous knitting experience.
Materials: Smooth light colored worsted weight yarn, wool or wool blend preferable; US8 needles.
