Know the basics and you've got the bug to learn more? This is the place! Students will learn to purl (if necessary), troubleshoot those baggy stitches, learn how to bind off, increase, decrease and anything else that time permits.

♦Short-Row Sock Heels

Session III  Saturday, May 1
10:30am-12:30
Fee: $15
Instructor: Julie Tigges

Most of us learn to make socks with a heel flap and gusset.  There are, however, other techniques.  Learn a short-row sock heel and eliminate the gusset and all that counting and picking-up of stitches.  Students will also get tips for eliminating that dreaded gap at the heel, stretchy cast-on and suggestions for anything else that ails your socks.
Materials and homework: worsted weight practice yarn, preferably in a light color, appropriately sized dpns.  Cast on 40 stitches and knit several rounds.

Ooops! - or How to Prevent and Fix Mistakes

Session I  Tuesday, April 6
6-8pm
Fee: $15
Instructor: Roxanne Richardson

Tired of making projects that don't turn out right?  Unsure of how to fix mistakes without ripping everything out and starting over?  This class will teach you how to avoid mistakes before you even start, how to fix mistakes while you're knitting, and what to do about mistakes you don't discover until you've finished knitting.  Students will learn how to make yarn stubstitutions, all about gauge and does it even matter, how to keep track of where you are and where you left off, understanding stitch anation so you can read your knitting and recognize dropped, twisted and "funny looking" stitches, how to fix mistakes several rows back, getting stitches back on the needle correctly, fixing misplaced increases and decreases, mis-crossed cables, lifelines and if there's time, how to use duplicate stitch to cover mistakes and how to alter length after the project is complete and much much more.

Homework:  Please knit a swatch 25 stitches wide by 35 rows long in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) using a light colored worsted weight yarn (so you can see your work clearly) with a size 7 or 8 needle.
Materials:  Bring the same yarn and needles to class, plus a tapestry needle.

Finishing Techniques

More sessions will be scheduled soon
Fee: $25

Materials: light colored worsted weight yarn, size 5 and 7 needles.
