Entrelac Thursdays, June 10, 17 10am-12
Fee: $30 Instructor: Julie Tigges
Entrelac looks impossible and if you've ever seen or tried the set-up row, it does seem unlikely that a cool woven fabric would come out of it! It's a very fun technique that shows off handpainted yarns and fibers with extended color changes. Students will learn the basic construction of entrelac, how to knit and purl backwards for faster knitting, and how to add lace to your entrelac.
Materials: Scarf Style by Pam Allen is highly recommended, practice yarn, yarn for project (can decide in first class), appropriately sized needles.

Mattress Stitch
Monday, July 12 6-8pm
Fee: $15 Instructor: Julie Tigges
Do you have pieces of sweaters lying about your house? Even if you don't want to admit that, learning how to put your sweaters together is always a good idea. Learn mattress stitch, the most invisible method of sewing up your knitting. It's really quite simple and it looks great.
Materials and homework: plain worsted weight practice yarn, Chibi needle. Knit swatches: 4 in stockinette (knit 1 row, purl 1 row - about 20 stitches, about 6 inches long), 2 in garter stitch (knit every row - about 20 stitches, about 6 inches long). Students may also bring any completed pieces to work on.

♦Short-Row Sock Heels
This class is offered occasionally. Please contact the shop to be placed on a waiting list.
Fee: $15 Instructor: Julie Tigges
Most of us learn to make socks with a heel flap and gusset. There are, however, other techniques. Learn a short-row sock heel and eliminate the gusset and all that counting and picking-up of stitches. Students will also get tips for eliminating that dreaded gap at the heel, stretchy cast-on and suggestions for anything else that ails your socks. Materials and homework: worsted weight practice yarn, preferably in a light color, appropriately sized dpns. Cast on 40 stitches and knit several rounds.
