It’s time to take the plunge and learn to knit socks. Learn basic sock construction while we knit an adult sock, perfect for keeping your feet warm during Minnesota’s winter nights. You’ll also learn how to use double pointed needles and the joy of turning a heel during this adventure. Ability to knit, purl and cast-on is essential.
Materials: Ann Norling Adult Basic Sock Pattern #12, two balls Raggi or other worsted weight superwash yarn, size 7 double pointed needles (bamboo recommended), stitch markers and basic knitting supplies.

Reversible Cabled Scarf

Cables add interesting texture to all sorts of knitted items, but they are usually worked with only one “right” side. In this class, learn to knit reversible cables which are ideal for scarves and afghans. Learn which types of cables can be adapted for reversible items.
Materials: size 9 and 11 needles (Needles need to be 2 sizes larger than they would typically use with Aran weight yarn). The main body of the scarf will be worked on size 11 needles; row marker (such as lockable stitch markers); cable needle; 5 skeins Lana grossa Bingo or other Aran weight yarn; Reversible Cabled Scarf pattern, by Roxanne Richardson

Baby Hat

A simple baby hat is a great way to expand your knitting skills. Learn how to knit in the round on circular and double pointed needles. Students may knit the simple rolled brim version or a slightly more adventurous earflap option.
Materials: Basic Hat & Mitten pattern #253 from Knitting Pure & Simple, 100-150 yards worsted weight yarn, appropriately sized dpns and 16" circular needles, stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Baby Mitts

Learn how to make a basic mitten for a quick and useful project. Students will learn how to knit on four needles in the round, ribbing, and basic mitten shaping. My First Sweater

Are you ready to knit a sweater? A baby sweater is a great way to learn sweater-making skills and make a wonderful sweater for someone very special. Students will learn how to read a pattern, increasing and decreasing tips, sweater construction, picking up and knitting and lots of other tips to make your knitting look great.
Materials: Babies Neck Down Cardigan pattern #982 from Knitting Pure & Simple, yarn and needles specified in the pattern, stitch markers, buttons, tapestry needle.

Entrelac: Lady Eleanor Stole
Session II Tuesdays, March 30, April 6, 13 6-8pm

Entrelac is that knitted fabric that looks woven and mysterious to knit. It really is fun to do after working through it. The pattern shows off multicolored yarns to great advantage. Make this terrific stole and learn lots of tips, including how to knit and purl backwards. Students will also have the option of making a smaller scarf version.
Materials: Scarf Styles by Pam Allen, 10 skeins of Noro Silk Garden for pictured piece, appropriate size circular needle, practice yarn (plain worsted weight is fine). Students may wait to purchase their yarn at first class session.

♦Peak Experience Socks

Are you ready to move beyond a basic sock? This class is for you. Use hand painted or striping sock yarn for this interesting patterned sock. You must have knit at least one sock as a prerequisite for this class.
Materials: Fiber Trends Peak Experience Socks pattern, hand-painted or self-striping fingering weight yarn, size 1 dpns.

♦Magic Loop Sox with Rox

Learn how to knit small circumference items in the round using one long circular needle and the "Magic Loop" technique. This class will knit socks from the cuff down and students will learn this new technique and can apply it to other knit-in-the-round projects. Students will learn how to customize socks for a better fit, how to make socks match when using self-patterning sock yarn, and basic sock construction techniques, including heels, gussets and toes.
Materials: 100 grams fingering or sport weight sock yarn, 32" circular needle in size appropriate for yarn, stitch markers, tapestry need.e.

♦Socks on Two Circulars
Session I Saturdays, May 1, 8 15 10am-12

Small circumference items can be knit in the round using two short circular needles rather than four or five double pointed needles. This class will teach you to knit socks cuff down with the two circs technique. You will be able to apply this technique to any small circumference item knit in the round.
We will spend the first class learning about the different parts of socks, how to customize your socks for a better fit, and casting on the proper number of stitches based on your foot measurements, your yarn, and your gauge.. If you are using self-striping yarn, you will learn how to make sure your second sock will match your first sock. In the second class we will knit the heel flap, turn the heel, and pick up stitches for the gusset. The third class you will finish the toe, learning two different ways to seamlessly graft the toe shut – right off the needles or using the “toe chimney” method.
Materials: sock yarn, 2 24" circular needles in appropriate size for yarn, stitch markers, tapestry needle.

Are you ready to move beyond a basic sock? Venture into custom design and design your own sock. This class is for experienced sock knitters. Materials: Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch, size 1 or 2 dpns, knitting supplies . Students should bring sock yarn from their stash OR wait to purchase yarn during the first class.
